SkyDrive gets an upgrade (25GB FOC!)

For years I used to be a big fan of Windows Live Mesh, and when I got an email saying it was being disbanded I was a little gutted. I had all of my devices connected to the Mesh system, and used it for sync’ed file storage as well as remote device management. It really was the badgers nadgers! I know it was replaced by the Windows Live SykDrive system, but at the time I never really switched. Sulking over the lack of SkyDrive features.

However, the Windows Live SkyDrive service recently popped up in the technology news, specifically over at Pocket Lint, in an out of the blue announcement stating SkyDrive’s now dropped it’s silverlight interface and has now switched to use HTML5. Sure loosing silverlight means one less app/add-in required. However this wasn’t really what caught my eye. Skydrive also offer 25GB of FREE online sync’ed storage! An what’s better still, is that the Windows Live Mesh client works to sync to SkyDrive on both Windows and Mac devices!

This couldn’t have come at a better time for me, as I am about to spec up a complete sync solution for a local charity!

If you used to use SkyDrive or Live Mesh, why not revisit it and see what you think to the new interface!

You can access the SkyDrive web interface here.
Alternatively, download the Windows Live Mesh desktop app for Windows here and for Mac here
