Dungeon Punks

A throwback to the arcade brawlers of the past but featuring modern fighting game mechanics and engrossing RPG elements, Dungeon Punks is filled with crazy magic spells, custom combo attacks and tag team-inspired tactical mayhem.  Set in a world of magic, mystery and corporate greed, players will discover loot and adventure as they seek to unravel the dark secrets of RezCorp in an effort take down the corrupt bigwigs of the resurrection insurance industry.

Dungeon Punks is a nod to the classic era of arcade brawlers and beat ‘em ups — when gaming was exciting and challenging, but still entirely accessible; when co-op was new and the camaraderie of a multiplayer adventure called you to the corner store for just one more round; when games were hard, satisfying and best experienced with friends,” said Dan Goldstein, Co-Founder and Developer at Hyper Awesome Entertainment.    “We wanted to make the game that we wished we could play, one that would take the best parts of fighting games like X-Men vs. Street Fighter and put them in the middle of a fantasy adventure full of devastating magic spells, custom combos, powerful weapons, interactive environments, power ups, and of course, rideable laser shooting unicorns…”

Dungeon Punks is a hilarious mash up of medieval times, magic and modern reality delivering players its own unique and quirky spin on the classic brawling genre.  Some of the many features include:

  • Multiplayer-Centric Design: Interactions between party members is paramount. How you use healing potions, power-ups, mounts, rage attacks and decisions about whether to stay or flee, all create a collaborative and ever-changing cooperative dynamic.
  • One-of-a-Kind Tag Team System: The game introduces a unique real-time tag team system that allows each player to control two heroes at once. Tagging in during combat allows you to craft custom combos by chaining together moves and spells from different members of your party, opening up new ways to play.
  • Innovative PVP Battle Arenas: “Joust mode” unlocks unlimited replay-ability via player versus player brawls to the death in every fighting location in the game. Each player gets a tag team of two heroes with separate health and mana, opening up a variety of play styles and strategies for defeating opponents.  The twist: each arena includes a Boss and his minions which you need to use as tactical assets to charge mana and damage your opponents!
  • Highly Streamlined RPG: Players can accept side quests given out by NPCs across the 12 epic levels, and between brawls they have some deep spending choices to make regarding their party’s equipment and spells.
  • Variety of Magical Spells and Team Attacks: Players can learn and upgrade spells and equipment for each party member, allowing players to custom-build their own band of heroes to suit their play style and strategy.
  • Powerful Creatures: Tame and ride powerful creatures like saber tooth cats, gorillas, and laser shooting unicorns. While riding, players can swing their hero’s weapon and control their mount’s special attacks at the same time.
  • Interactive Environments and Hidden Power-Ups: Various objects and interactive features placed throughout rooms introduce surprising, and often unpredictable, ways to take out enemies. Accidentally burning a spider egg-sac can result in an unpleasant surprise, but using lightning on it has quite the opposite effect. Players can discover hidden items around the world ranging from healing potions and enchantments, to electric eel eggs and dragon summoning scrolls.
  • PlayStation® Cross-Buy Compatible:  Purchase of PlayStation®4 or PlayStation®Vita version unlocks the digital version on the other platform.

Dungeon Punks is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation®4 for $14.99.  The game will also be released for the PlayStation®Vita on August 16, and is PlayStation® Cross-Buy compatible.  Windows  PC and OS X versions will arrive later this summer on Steam.  For more information about Dungeon Punks, visit www.dungeonpunksgame.com.

Leading European video game publisher Gameforge in partnership with Sparkypants Studios is providing select players with early access to Dropzone through its Closed Beta Test. In this ground-breaking RTS experience, players outfit their squad of three Rigs with specialized gear to face each other in adrenalin-fueled 1v1 battles and race against the clock in the most intense 15 minutes of RTS action ever to hit the PC. Furthermore, top ESL-Streamers will square off in Cologne, Germany at the ESL Studios to put their skills to the test as they match up against each other.

Sign up for a chance to receive an exclusive beta-key here

A highly competitive title, Dropzone combines popular RTS mechanics including intense 1v1 action, multi-unit control, deep strategy and attention management with extensive ability customization, pilot leveling, positional play and tactical action found in MOBA-styled games.

Individual Excellence

Powered by Sparkypants Studios own Sparkle Engine, a game engine built from the ground up for competitive online play, players command a squad of three personal, highly specialized Pilots each operating a unique Rig in 15 minute head-to-head matchups of strategy and skill.

“Dropzone delivers that adrenaline rush and individual excellence that comes from the classic 1v1 competitive experience we have always loved. We like to have it all on the line where the individual player is responsible for winning or losing,” says Stuart Jeff, Design Director, Sparkypants Studios. “With all the hard work and love we put into the game every day, it’s exciting to open Dropzone up for more players. We’re looking forward to the feedback from beta participants, as well as these tournament match-ups and what Pros and professional Streamers can do in our game as together we take Dropzone to the next level.”

On a Distant Moon

“It is the 22nd Century. All of humanity depends on a rare and powerful energy source called Cores mined from Jupiter’s moon Europa—but Europa has fallen. Now corporations, entrepreneurs and all freelancers fight the hostile Alien Kavash (and sometimes each other) to scavenge Cores and cash in on the new “Core Rush”. Doing so requires powerful mechanized Rigs, specialized gear and highly trained pilots to explore the surfaces or Europa and retrieve the cores from the Kavash.”

  • Intense 15 minute matches
  • Extensive options for customizable units – combine pilots and gear to build a squad of Rigs that suits your style of play
  • Easily understandable rules and victory conditions that provide for incredible strategic depth
  • Integrated Spectator and Replay Modes allow players to watch and learn

Powered by the brand-new next-gen Sparkle Engine, designed specifically for:

  • Robust Online Play

“We’re happy to bring these updates to our iPad Pro users.” said Smile founder, Greg Scown. “The new 12″ keyboard layouts fit very well with the iOS system keyboard.”

TextExpander is as little as US $3.33 per month for individuals on the Life Hacker plan. Current TextExpander users receive a 50% lifetime discount. Switch OffWhen running commands in El Capitan OS X terminal, even as root  you may be greated with a rather unhelpful error message of ‘Operation not permitted’. In fact, this isn’t an error message at all – it’s part of an OS X El Capitan feature called System Integrity Protection.

The following is a description from the Apple website:

System Integrity Protection is a security technology in OS X El Capitan that’s designed to help prevent potentially malicious software from modifying protected files and folders on your Mac.

In OS X, the “root” user account previously had no permission restrictions and could access any system folder or application on your Mac. Software gained root-level access when you entered your administrator name and password to install it and could then modify or overwrite any system file or application.

System Integrity Protection restricts the root account and limits the actions that the root user can perform on protected parts of OS X.

 In order to switch off the System Integrity Protection, you firstly need to boot your Mac from the built in recovery partition, to do this follow the steps below;
  1. Power off your Mac
  2. Press and hold CMD + R on your Mac keyboard
  3. From the Utilities menu, select Terminal
  4. Copy and paste or type in the following:

    csrutil disable
    reboot

Once El Capitan has finished booting back up, you should be able to perform your advanced file manipulation without any more operation not permitted messages.

It is worth bearing in mind, if you leave this switched off you’re leaving your Mac vunerable to accidental or malicious system level file changes, which could result in it needing a complete reinstall or worse. So unless you are a confident advanced user, it would be worth repeating the steps above but replacing disable with enable.

Last week, due to the demands of a busy Sky Planner, I wanted to watch a programme on BBC1 at the same time as two other channels were recording. My preference being that I wanted the output on a larger screen rather than an iPad therefore I setup my MacBook upstairs, plugged in the TV and navigated to the BBC iPlayer page, only to encounter the problem that I do not have Flash Player installed.

noflash

Since I have only recently started on a clean OSX installation again, I have been trying my very best to avoid installing third party software like Flash. It was looking like I would be left with no choice until I stumbled across the following workaround:

  1. The first step is to enable the Develop menu in Safari (if you already have this enabled, just proceed to step 3). Start by opening the Safari preferences, finding this in the Safari menu in top left hand corner
    prefmenu
  2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab and set the ‘Show develop menu in menu bar’ option to active
    safariadvpref
  3. Whilst on the BBC iPlayer page (which should still be demanding that Flash Player is installed), open the Develop menu then from the User Agent option, select any of the ‘Safari – iOS…’ options. It will be set to Default as standard however I generally choose the iPad option
    developmenu
  4. You should now find that the iPlayer is happy to allow you to view the content using the HTML5 framework
    playiplayer

This is because the BBC has only released the HTML5 version of iPlayer to tablets at present. By following the above steps, you are simulating your browser as a tablet which is why the functionality is enabled.

Credit goes to the original source Unop for this suggestion.

Psyop Games and IllFonic will release their team-based, competitive first person shooter, Moving Hazard, on personal computer through Steam’s Early Access program on March 10 for $19.99 USD. The game pits rival military factions in a desperate battle for resources in a world lost to the zombie infection, where players must fight the instinct to kill zombies in order to spare the shamblers and deploy them as weapons against the enemy.

“We had such an incredible reaction from fans during our debut at PAX South, with players asking us to release the game immediately, so we’re incredibly excited to deliver Moving Hazard on Early Access,” said Christian Cantamessa, Lead Writer and Design Consultant for Psyop Games. “Once PAX-goers learned to stop killing the undead and started using them as scent-guided bloodhounds or shambling flesh-eating allies, the competition got fierce and the freshness of the gameplay really stood out. We can’t wait to give the community access and get their feedback to make it even better in the coming months.”

Moving Hazard will release on Early Access with a robust feature set, including cutting-edge Unreal Engine 4 graphics, loadout customizations, two player Factions with three classes, four maps, four game modes, and eight unique weapons. In addition, the game will offer more than 30 Player Perks, more than 50 Weapon Mods, matchmaking and lobby services, and a Player Hideout, where players can level up, upgrade and select personalized skills.

Psyop Games and IllFonic will continue development of Moving Hazard throughout the Early Access process, responding to community feedback to add and tweak major feature additions and other upgrades. The game will enter a full release on Steam later this year.

About Moving Hazard

Moving Hazard brings a new twist to both competitive military shooters and zombie games by mashing together the popular genres in a fresh way. Set 50 years after civilization’s fall to a fast-moving zombie plague, Moving Hazard boldly challenges gamers to play counter to everything they’ve learned from previous zombie games – namely, to avoid killing the living dead and rather, to spare the mindless biters and deploy them as weapons against the enemy.

Featuring realistic weapons and a full arsenal of tactical equipment, including military-grade assault weapons, classic fragmentation and smoke grenades, and claymores, Moving Hazard is a full-fledged military shooter and features multiple maps, modes and tactics.

Most importantly however, players must take advantage of the zombie control technology that can attract, repel, sedate, and anger the voracious horde, including:

  • The Pheromone Attractor Molotov (The PAM): when applied to any infected, they become frenzied and immediately hunt down and attack enemies;
  • The Chaos Grenade: stuns enemies while frenzying nearby zombies, creating a doubly vicious attack;
  • The Templar: broadcasts a signal that repels zombies, forcing the horde to turn in their tracks to head away as fast as possible.

Moving Hazard will release for personal computer on Steam on March 10 for $19.99 USD.

For more information, please visit the official site or the Facebook page and the Twitter feed and the game’s official forums

Linux Mint have openly admitted that their WordPress installation was compromised yesterday (20th February 2016) and links to their Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon edition ISOs where replaced with links to an ISO with a baked in back door!

Users who downloaded the ISO from their HTTP links yesterday may have inadvertently downloaded a copy with the Tsunami Trojan built in.

Those who downloaded the ISOs via torrent links will not have been affected by the compromised ISOs, due to the way torrents work. However those who used standard HTTP requests may find they’ve a rogue file in /var/lib/man.cy

Not only did they redirect the download links, they also stole the databases.. These are now for sale on the “dark net” for $86 as the screen shot on the below tweet shows

If you’ve downloaded the ISO, the owners of Linux Mint are strongly recommending you reinstall the OS, you can read more about the attack over at the Linux Mint Blog

Migrating mailboxes to 365 using the GUI options or the website can be time consuming, especially if you have hundreds to do. (Of course, if you was doing batches of mailboxes you’d change this PowerShell to import from a file)

The following, connects to your on premise exchange server, and then connects to your 365 tenant and initiates the transfer of the mailbox.

Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Force
$365ADMIN = Get-Credential
$HYBRIDADMIN = Get-Credential
$BADITEMLIMIT = 1000
$SESSION = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri "https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/" -Credential $365ADMIN -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection

Import-PSSession $SESSION
Connect-MsolService -Credential $365ADMIN

$UPN = Read-Host "Please enter UPN of the user to migrate to 365"
New-MoveRequest -Identity $UPN -Remote -RemoteHostName mail.domain.co.uk -TargetDeliveryDomain tenant.mail.onmicrosoft.com -RemoteCredential $HYBRIDADMIN -BadItemLimit $BADITEMLIMIT

Note – the on premise exchange server (in my case at least) required credentials in the DOMAIN\USERNAME format, the 365 admin credentials are passed in full UPN format.

Once the above job has been queued, your PowerShell will return to the prompt. If you’d like to get the status of this, or any other move requests currently taking place you can use the Get-MoveRequest commandlet and pipe it to Get-MoveRequestStatistics as per the below

Get-MoveRequest | Get-MoveRequestStatistics

Apple have acknowledged that some USB C charge cables, packaged with MacBooks and sold as accessories throughout June 2015, may intermittently charge or complete fail to charge your devices. This is believed to be due to a failing in the manufacturing process.

Apple have now launched a replacement program for all cable owners effected by the failure.

The cables are clearly marked, and are easy to identify, check the image below for an example

A bug in iOS has meant many people have ended up with a ‘bricked’ phone after falling for an online prank, offering a retro iOS Easter egg.

Setting an iOS device clock to midnight on 01/01/1970 ends up in a divide by zero error – resulting in an un bootable device.

It’s believe to be caused by the fact the time is stored on the device in GMT, then an offset applied of seconds since 1970, depending on your location. As the above essentially sets the devices clock to zero thus causing the error.

There’s no “Easter egg” of a retro apple symbol in the OS. So don’t risk trying to find it, unless you’re short of paper weights.

EDIT: A video has since been published on YouTube explaining how to fix your phone should you have fallen for this “trick”

As part of my job role I have to monitor and maintain VPN connections on several sites across the UK. This relies on many third party systems and networks, each of which have their own status pages. However non have their own RSS feeds.. This generally leads to a scramble around for links for status pages when we lose connection to a site.. That was until I read a recent blog post from Richard Tubb’s blog

The post featured a service called VisualPing which I’ve now set up to monitor and notify me of changes to the status pages. VisualPing takes a ‘screenshot’ at a specified interval, and compares it to the preview screenshot taken. If there’s been any changes it then notifies you via email.

So now, I get the status delivered to my inbox – leaving me to get on with more important things such as speaking to the branch to explain the issue.

I’ve used VisualPing to monitor service status pages, but as Richard’s pointed out in his post, you can use it to monitor any web page for changes!

Thanks for Richard for this time saver..

Have you found a unique way to use VisualPing? Let me know in the comments section below.

Apples World Wide Developer conference dates have been leaked by the hosting venues own calendar booking system! The Moscone West Convention centre in San Francisco has the dates between the 13th and 17th of June booked out, which falls inline with Apples previous WWDCs.

There’s no official news from apple regarding the event as of yet. Generally the date is kept secret until the invites land on the doormats of the media and VIPs.

The event is expected to be the launch platform for iOS 10 and OS X 10.12.. With potentially also the unveiling of new iterations of WatchOS and tvOS.

There are also rumours suggesting the Apple Music streaming service will receive an extra tier, a tier dedicated to higher resolution music. However there’s no indication of where this price point will fit. Or if this will actually be ready for WWDC 2016.
